Our all-volunteer board are quite passionate about this work, and it's a lot of fun to be part of something this vibrant and high level. We've made parent education events trendy!
Yes you have. You're a terrific bunch! What's in the works for future FAN programs?
We just finished our last program of the academic year featuring Richard Louv, so right now I am in mop-up mode, tying a bunch of loose ends. Over the last two months, I have had a series of small-group meetings with FAN board members and our school liaisons to receive their input on topics and speakers for 2011-12, and I am meeting with principals and administrators to gauge their interests as well. FAN's fortunate to have so many thoughtful parents, educators and helping professionals involved with our work -- an abundance of riches, truly.
As for specific speakers, I keep a list running throughout the year of possibilities, adding to it as someone crosses my radar. Since I can only do 6-8 programs a year, I can't get to everyone on the list each year, so some stay on, some rotate out, and of course new ones are added all the time. I have about six years worth of programming ready to go!
We have some fantastic individuals lined up already -- it's going to be a particularly strong, insightful, engaging year.
